Sailing offers many benefits. It provides a break from everyday life and helps build self-confidence and trust in one’s own abilities through an understanding of the wind and the elements.
With this in mind, Geneva Sailing School created the Anyone Can Sail project in 2021 at the Port des Pâquis. It offers introductory courses to social, educational and cultural organisations, adapting the cost of its services to make sailing accessible to as many people as possible.
Sailing at school
In collaboration with Geneva’s Department of Public Education, we take public school classes out on the lake. In two hours, pupils take the helm, hoist the sails, discover the winds and learn to sail together, with mutual support and respect for the lake.
Why this project matters
In Geneva, sailing is part of our heritage, yet it remains a sport reserved for a minority. Some of the pupils we welcome have grown up in Geneva but had never been to the lakeshore, let alone on a boat. For many, this outing is a memorable discovery that builds confidence and opens new horizons. By October 2025, 360 pupils had already taken part.
Why we need you
The DIP organises the outings with the schools, but sailing receives no funding for pupils. Without donations, these children stay on shore.
Every franc goes on the water
At market rates, two hours of sailing for a class would cost between 2,500 and 3,000 CHF. We offer it for 1,000 CHF, on a non-profit basis, covering only our actual costs.
1,000 CHF = a whole class of 20 to 25 pupils on the lake.
Our goal for 2027: 50 classes, more than 1,000 children. Every donation counts, whatever the amount.
Sailing and boating are often seen as a passion reserved for insiders, with costs that exclude people on lower incomes. Anyone Can Sail aims to give everyone the chance to experience sailing, opening the door to this world for people who have traditionally felt excluded from it.
Group outings, sailing lessons and children’s camps at a rate adapted to your situation.
